Design the rooms of tomorrow with us!
Interior design today is more than just interior design - it is an experience, innovation and responsibility. The four-semester Master's degree programme in Interior Design at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences offers you the opportunity to deepen your design expertise, develop your own design signature and hone your individual profile - interdisciplinary, practical and future-oriented. Experience interior design in a new way - with the three focus areas EXPERIENCE DESIGN, SOCIAL DESIGN and SUSTAINABLE DESIGN.
Interior design is concerned with the human relationship to spaces created by people, which are considered physically, mentally and socially. As a discipline, it encompasses the design of perceived environments, planned and imagined spaces and the social interactions that take place within them. Interior designers create functional, aesthetic and sustainable spaces. Their work requires a deep understanding of human needs, cultural and ecological aspects. The adaptive reuse of existing spaces and working in interdisciplinary teams are central elements of a profession that combines architecture, design, art and applied sciences.
The curriculum of the Master's degree programme in Interior Architecture takes account of the human relationship to space (mental, social and physical) by introducing three focus areas: Experience Design, Social Design and Sustainable Design. In the first two semesters of the programme, students can choose designs for these focus areas. The main focus here is on an intensive design project with a seminar accompanying the design. The Master's project to prepare the Master's thesis follows in the third semester. Here, the foundations for the Master's thesis are laid with a high degree of independence and through analysis, research, documentation and preliminary drafts. Accompanied by compulsory subjects and an extensive programme of electives during the first three semesters, the focus areas allow students to specialise as well as choose courses according to their individual interests or with the aim of achieving the broadest possible spectrum of content.

A degree programme that broadens perspectives
From the winter semester 2026/27, we will be offering a flexible, project-based degree programme with new freedom to deepen your own interests. The Master's programme is aimed at ambitious designers with a relevant space-related Bachelor's degree who would like to deepen their design skills. We look forward to welcoming creative people who not only want to design spaces, but also create experiences, take on social responsibility and develop sustainable strategies for the future. Start your Master's programme in Interior Architecture at HFT Stuttgart and design the spaces of tomorrow.
Your degree programme. Your specialisation. Our future.
After 20 years, the "International Master of Interior-Architectural Design (IMIAD)" is being replaced by the "Master of Interior Architecture". In terms of content, however, it is not a complete new start, as the topics of the three profile-defining focus areas have already occupied us and our students in recent years. Although the following reference projects date back to the previous IMIAD degree programme, they give a good impression of "What has happened so far...".
EXPERIENCE DESIGN
Designing scenic and virtual spaces
Design physical and virtual spaces that touch people, appeal to all the senses and tell stories. Whether it's an exhibition, brand space or digital scenario - in Experience Design you develop innovative concepts for digital and analogue worlds of experience and create immersive spaces that arouse emotions and create experiences. Spaces that move!
Specialising in exhibitions, extended reality, brand staging, spatial dramaturgy, scenography

SOCIAL DESIGN
Designing in a social and intercultural context
Social design puts people at the centre. Spaces become social actors, because architecture changes society. Through community projects, educational centres or social initiatives, you develop spatial concepts that enable diversity, participation and cohesion and support social change. Think socially - strengthen community!
Focus on intercultural design, participation, spaces for education, culture and encounters

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
Design in existing buildings and circular construction
Resources are finite, ideas are not. Sustainable design respects the past and opens up paths to future-proof architecture that takes future generations into account by combining future-proof design strategies with adaptive construction in existing buildings and the use of materials in the sense of the circular economy. Sustainability is not an option, but an attitude.
Focus on circular design and construction, materials and processes for a sustainable future
