Application Process

Exchange students from HFT partner universities can usually enroll and study at the HFT Stuttgart for up to two semesters. Students from other universities (not partner universities of HFT Stuttgart) are able to apply with the status "Freemover".

Nominated students will receive all further information and their MOBILITY-ONLINE login details by e-mail.

Buddy Programme

Buddies are regular students at HFT Stuttgart who volunteer to provide individual support to incoming students. Buddies guide incoming students around the campus and answer all their questions about studying at HFT Stuttgart and life in Stuttgart.

  • Due to its city centre location, there is no accommodation on the campus of the HFT Stuttgart.
  • Studierendenwerk allocates the rooms, so the students cannot choose their rooms.
  • The minimum rental period is 6 months.

Financial Support

There are various funding opportunities for students at HFT Stuttgart. Further funding opportunities can be found in the DAAD scholarship database. The following scholarships are awarded by the International Office:

The Baden-Württemberg scholarship supports the international exchange of highly qualified foreign students between universities in Baden-Württemberg and universities outside the ERASMUS area. In addition to a study or research stay, the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM offers scholarship holders the opportunity to mature in their personal development and competence through intercultural experiences and to develop sensitivity and appreciation towards other cultures as part of the "regional development policy component (REK)".

January 15 for the following summer semester

August 15 for the following winter semester

What requirements must be met?

  1. You are an exchange student from a partner university of HFT Stuttgart or you are an international direct student of HFT from an LDC
  2. You do not receive any other scholarship or other financial support from your home university (e.g. ERASMUS), your home country or from Germany (e.g. DAAD, Deutschlandstipendium, BaföG)

How do I apply?

Please send the following documents to iso.aaa@hft-stuttgart.de:

  1. Letter of motivation
  2. for exchange students: current transcript of records from your home university (and from the HFT Stuttgart if applicable)
  3. for international HFT students, from LDCs: current transcript of records from the HFT Stuttgart  (students in their 1st Master's semester can submit their Bachelor's grades from their home country)
  4. Curriculum vitae

What happens after the application?

  1. The International Office and the programme coordinators carry out the pre-selection of applicants (=nomination).
  2. Nominated applicants receive then log-in data for the online application from the International Office. This applicant information is then sent to the central scholarship committee. Please note! Please do not apply directly to the BW Foundation without nomination, otherwise you will automatically not receive a scholarship.
  3. The Baden-Württemberg Foundation makes the final decision on the awarding of scholarships. Further information on the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM can be found at www.bw-stipendium.de.
  4. By accepting the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM of the Baden-Württemberg Stiftung, you also confirm that you will not receive any other scholarship for your studies during the scholarship period.

In agreement with the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart and the Verein der Freunde und Förderer der Hochschule für Technik Stuttgart e.V., the Robert Breuning Foundation awards rent subsidies to international students of the HFT Stuttgart who are accommodated in the halls of residence of the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart.

The rent subsidy amounts to € 150 per month for the funding period of one semester.

The maximum funding period is

  • 6 semesters for Bachelor students and is awarded up to the 8th semester of higher education,
  • 3 semesters for Master's students and is awarded up to a maximum of the 5th university semester.

December 1 - January 15 for the following summer semester

June 1 - July 15 for the following winter semester

What requirements must be met?

  1. You are a regular international student or exchange student from a partner university of HFT Stuttgart.
  2. You live in student accommodation in Stuttgart.
  3. You can proof an extracurricular and/or special commitment at the HFT Stuttgart, e.g. activity in the Buddy Program, participation in international activities/events (e.g. cultural evening, coffee break), special activities in the degree program, e.g. semester speaker, tutor activity, etc.

What happens after the application?

  1. On the basis of the files and after consultation with the programme coordinators, the International Office will select the sponsored students.
  2. The students will be informed in writing about the result of the selection.

Every year, the International Office raises scholarship funds from the German Academic Exchange Service, which can be awarded to international students at HFT Stuttgart.

The aim is firstly to enable qualified international students to concentrate on their final thesis through a degree scholarship. Scholarships for particularly committed students are intended to improve the supervision of international students by scholarship holders taking on supervisory tasks in consultation with the International Office.

January 1 - February 15 for the following summer semester

July 1 - August 15 for the following winter semester

 

What requirements must be met?

  1. You are a regular international student at HFT Stuttgart.
  2. You have at least a good academic record.
  3. Scholarship for particularly committed international students: You have shown outstanding commitment to supporting international students at HFT Stuttgart.Graduation scholarship: You are expected to complete your studies within one year.

 

How do I apply?

  2. Current overview of grades
  3. Scholarship for committed international students: if applicable, proof of previous commitment at HFT Stuttgart
  4. Graduation scholarship: Registration of the final thesis incl. rough schedule until graduation
  5. Letter of recommendation from an HFT lecturer

 

What happens after the application?

  1. On the basis of the files and after consultation with the degree program coordinators, the International Office selects the scholarship holders.
  2. The students will be informed in writing about the result of the selection.

Every year, HFT Stuttgart awards the DAAD Prize to an international student who has distinguished themselves through special academic achievements and social or intercultural commitment. This award "is intended to help put faces to the large numbers of international students at German universities and connect them with stories." (German Academic Exchange Service)

Who can receive the award?

International students,

  • who are pursuing a degree at the HFT (no exchange students).
  • who are at least in the 4th semester of a Bachelor's degree course or the 2nd semester of a Master's degree course.
  • who have outstanding academic achievements.
  • who are socially or (inter)culturally engaged.

 

Candidates are nominated by the degree programmes and the final winner is selected at the prizewinners' meeting (September/October). It is not possible to apply directly for the prize.
