The German Rectors' Conference (HRK) Research Map of Universities of Applied Sciences provides information on outstanding key research areas at German universities and universities of applied sciences. With the renewed official recognition of its research priorities, Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences emphasizes its role as an important driving force for practical science and technological developments.

HFT is one of the strong research universities of applied science in Baden-Württemberg with successful national, European and worldwide research projects. The objective is to collaborate with partners from the scientific, business, and societal sectors to collectively develop metropolitan areas for tomorrow - climate-literate, resilient, and connected living and working spaces that meet the needs of present and future generations.

The two recognized research priorities combine the diverse research topics of the university’s three faculties and actively promote knowledge transfer, interdisciplinary cooperation, and international partnerships.

1. Future-oriented Planning, Constructing and Managing

This main research area centers on future-oriented buildings and neighbourhoods, renewable raw materials, emission-free energy concepts, use of renewable energies, new concepts for adapting to climate change, and new forms of economic activity and social coexistence.

Spokesman: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Berndt Zeitler / Managing Director: Dr. rer. nat. Beatriz Unger-Bimczok

2. Smart Technologies, Processes and Methods

The focus of this research priority is on intelligent approaches to innovative technologies, processes and methods for a wide range of applications. Digitisation and data-driven methods, such as data processing, simulations, and artificial intelligence are used in this context.

Spokeman: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Uckelmann / Managing Director: Dr. Sarah Larsen-Vefring

The HRK‘s Research Map highlights the diversity of scientific research in Germany, making it both visible and accessible. The renewed inclusion of HFT’s research focus areas reaffirms their relevance and impact, fostering interdisciplinary knowledge exchange and new research collaborations.
