It is institutionally supported by the ZKE (Centre for Climate Protection and Energy) at HFT Stuttgart and is being further developed under the leadership of Professor Margit Sichrovsky and with the assistance of student assistants.
The aim of the Materials Centre is to actively promote sustainable model-making as part of everyday student life and to take concrete steps to combat the waste of resources on campus. To this end, MATZE collects model-making materials left over from ongoing coursework and at the end of each term, sorts them and redistributes them to students. This conserves resources, eases the financial burden on students and is complemented by partnerships with external companies that contribute additional materials to the cycle.
Behind the initiative lies a clear philosophy: materials are a resource, not a consumable. MATZE sees itself as a practical contribution to a university culture that not only espouses sustainability as a principle but also puts it into practice in everyday life – an initiative that grew out of the student body and is now structurally embedded within the university.
MATZE is located in the Architecture Workshop and is available to all architecture students.
