On Thursday, 15 October 2026, the exhibition opened with a preview event.
BEST OF 2026: An evening full of creativity, discussion and new encounters
A selection of furniture, plans, models and analyses showcased the creative breadth of the degree programmes and brought the faculty’s interdisciplinary potential to life. Alongside the exhibition on campus, a digital collection of selected projects was also published at the same time.
At 6.15 pm, Prof. Dr Jan Cremers welcomed the guests together with Jürgen Aldinger and Christin Gegner, who were primarily responsible for the design and coordination of the exhibition. Following the opening, a lively evening unfolded, combining student work, personal encounters and shared celebrations.
STUDENT PROJECTS IN THE SPOTLIGHT
On the ground floor of Building 4, the Climate Engineering, Smart City Solutions and International Project Management degree programmes, as well as the Master’s programme in Urban Planning, were showcased. On the first floor, work from the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Interior Design and Architecture was on display.
Compared with previous editions, this year’s exhibition was organised in a more compact layout. This concentrated presentation created a particularly pleasant and lively atmosphere. The projects were arranged more closely together; walkways became spaces for interaction; and numerous opportunities arose for conversation, professional exchange and new perspectives that transcended the boundaries of the individual degree programmes.
GET-TOGETHERS, BARS AND PARTYING TOGETHER
The supporting programme also played a key role in creating the evening’s special atmosphere. The main bar at Cre8 was run by the student union and students from Block 4. In Building 4, a Campari bar and a hot dog stand rounded off the line-up – both organised and run by interior design students. This meant that the exhibition became not only a venue for creative work, but also a meeting place for socialising and celebrating together.
At the same time, the Lecturers’ Lounge – which had evolved from the former ‘Dachfest’ – took place on the ground floor of Building 8. The lively exchange across the various disciplines underlined the communal nature of the evening and provided a space to nurture existing contacts and forge new connections.
CREATIVE STAGING AND MUSICAL HIGHLIGHTS
The exhibition’s creative staging was a particular eye-catcher: Plexiglas panels from a previous project were repurposed as birds and atmospherically illuminated. The installation added a striking creative touch and demonstrated how existing materials can take on a new form and effect through creative ideas.
DJ fabiankaa and DJ Unholy provided the perfect soundtrack, getting the party going from 6.00 pm to midnight. Their sets set the tone for the evening and played a key role in creating the lively atmosphere at the faculty party that followed.
A SUCCESSFUL EVENING FOR THE WHOLE FACULTY
The BEST OF 2026 once again highlighted the wealth of creativity, dedication and ingenuity found across the various degree programmes at the Faculty of Architecture and Design. The combination of a focused showcase of student work, a digital exhibition, personal exchanges and a varied supporting programme created the perfect setting to recognise students’ achievements and celebrate the faculty’s diversity together.
A heartfelt thank you goes to all the students, lecturers, staff, the student council and everyone else involved who, through their dedication, creativity and commitment, made this successful exhibition and this special evening possible.
Congratulations to all the award-winning students on their outstanding work – and many thanks to everyone who helped shape BEST OF 2026 and brought it to life!
All the selected works can still be viewed in our digital collection
