PhD Scholarship

In co-operation with CADFEM International GmbH as a sponsor, we would like to support a highly qualified young scientist on his/her path to a doctorate.

Dissertation project:

The dissertation aims to contribute to agent-based dynamic simulation of energy supply in an urban district as a component of an urban digital twin in the energy sector.

From a software system perspective, the advantages and disadvantages of using functional mock-up units (FMU) compared to a web service architecture for analysing the energy system of a city district will be examined. In addition, an assessment will be made of how a physics-based simulation of supply networks and buildings and their use as prosumers can be improved or even replaced by an AI-based agent system. SimStadt will be used in combination with EnergyPlus for the physics-based simulation.

The dissertation is closely linked to the EU-funded project ‘Energy Data and Flexibility Management for Positive Energy (FlexPED)’. Data and developments from the FlexPED project can be used for the AI-based agent system.

Prerequisites:

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master) in the field of computer science or related degree programmes with an above-average degree
  • Very good knowledge of software development with Java
  • Experience in the development of SimStadt and EnergyPlus is desirable
  • Recognisable affinity and motivation for research
  • Very good written and spoken English skills
  • Initiative, ability to work in a team and above-average commitment

You can expect an exciting topic and innovative insights into future technological developments with a high practical relevance.
