Guest lecture by Dr Abdallah as part of the ‘Fundamentals of BIM and Modelling’ module
At the end of the summer semester, third- and fourth-semester students on the Bachelor’s degree programme in Surveying and Geoinformatics welcomed a special guest to their lecture:
Dr Ashraf Abdallah, Associate Professor at Aswan University (Egypt).
At the invitation of Prof. Alexander Beetz, Dr Abdallah gave a lecture on the modelling of historic buildings as part of the ‘Fundamentals of BIM and Modelling’ (GBM) course. He presented modern methods of digital building documentation – ranging from data capture using laser scanning and photogrammetry, through the processing of point clouds, to the creation of intelligent HBIM (Historic Building Information Modelling) models.

International scientific collaboration and the exchange of knowledge are key building blocks for innovation, research and the further development of our field. We look forward to future joint projects and collaborations in the fields of Heritage Documentation, HBIM and Geomatics Engineering
The ‘Fundamentals of BIM and Modelling’ (GBM) module is one of the specialisation modules offered exclusively to students who have chosen the ‘Surveying’ specialisation for their degree programme.
In GBM, students learn, for example, the fundamentals of Building Information Modelling (BIM), how to create as-built models for BIM, the necessary data exchange and the various applications of BIM.
The guest lecture provided a valuable complement to the course and highlighted, in particular, the challenges of applying BIM to historic buildings.
