Geoinformatics lecture with a visit from Sri Lanka

Dr. Gamini Jayathissa from Sri Lanka visited the Master's course in Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics at HFT Stuttgart

About 15 years ago, Dr. Gamini Jayathissa attended lectures as a guest student on the Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics Master's course. After completing his doctorate at the University of Tübingen, he now works at the National Building Research Organization in Sri Lanka for the "Landslide Risk Mitigation Program". Shortly before Christmas, he visited HFT Stuttgart and gave a lecture on the use of geoinformatics technologies in disaster risk management.

Dr. Gamini Jayathissa studied in Germany as a DAAD scholarship holder around 15 years ago and also attended lectures in the Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics Master's course as a guest student. His doctorate at the University of Tübingen was co-supervised by Prof. Dr. Dietrich Schröder from the HFT Stuttgart. Today he works at the National Building Research Organization in Sri Lanka for the "Landslide Risk Mitigation Program", which relies heavily on geoinformatics technologies such as GNSS, GIS and remote sensing. As part of the DAAD re-invitation program, he visited HFT Stuttgart shortly before Christmas and gave a lecture on the topic of "Application of 3S Technologies in Disaster Risk Management (DRM)". This was a valuable enrichment, especially for the current students in the Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics Master's program, and also complemented the content of their geoinformatics lecture. A further contribution to sustainable, global and intercultural networking.

DAAD background:

The DAAD has been supporting the Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics Master's program and its students for over 20 years. Scholarships, language courses, tutorials, lecturers, guest lectures and intercultural events are financially supported. Former scholarship holders have the opportunity to visit their former educational institution in Germany again as guest researchers as part of the DAAD re-invitation program; the HFT Stuttgart has already acted as host on several occasions.
