ENTRE-LACS - AN OPEN CHAPTER IN THE URBAN SPACE

Master's thesis | Jan Essling | 5th semester | Summer term 2025

"Entre-Lacs" is transforming a former industrial site in Mantes-la-Jolie (France) into a lively, mixed neighbourhood. The careful development utilises existing structures, creates climate-resilient open spaces and promotes social and functional diversity. An experimental, step-by-step process enables appropriation and changeability. The new neighbourhood strengthens the connection to the Seine and, with its openness, sustainability and urban radiance, sets a deliberate counter-accent to the densification in the greater Paris area.
