Design IP3 | Mia Jerkovic, Julia Riedel & Alina Wangler | 4th semester | Winter semester 2024/25

The "travelling cinema as a pulsating meeting place" was created as part of the IP3 Steel Construction. The task was to create a cultural venue for events and a central meeting place. The travelling cinema will initially be located in Stuttgart's Schlossgarten and will be able to move on in the future to fill cultural gaps there. The design idea was to use the dark cinema as the starting point for the design. As the cinema requires a higher ceiling height than the rest of the cinema space, it is visually inserted through the lower part of the building as a kind of "core". The travelling cinema with its pulsating prismatic façade has a special long-distance effect and invites visitors into the park with its inviting gesture. The surrounding staircase with integrated seating steps creates an open transition between the park and the building. The transparent façade draws the eye into the central foyer and arouses curiosity to explore the interior. This creates a new, lively meeting place that is accessible from all directions in the park. The small and recurring components of the cinema box are made from the Mero node system and enable easy assembly and disassembly thanks to the detachable connections. The conventional supporting structure around it is reduced so as not to distract the focus from the cinema box. The entire building has a modular structure and uses detachable connections to ensure reusability.

The student project was supervised by Prof. Sebastian Jehle, Prof. Martin Stumpf and Prof. Volkmar Bleicher.
