12th Forum on Architectural Studies
[HYBRID]FORUM: Ephemeral Spaces in Architecture
Embodied Knowledge, Design Practices, and Living Archives in Hybrid Spaces
November 27–28, 2026
The 12th Forum on Architectural Science examines how embodied knowledge can be methodically harnessed as an epistemic and design resource in the context of increasing digitalization and virtuality—and how this is transforming design, communication, and knowledge processes in architecture.
Friday, November 27, 2026
The first day will focus on presentations that examine, from a spatial-architectural perspective, the constitution of hybrid spaces and the practices of their design. The discussion will address the interplay between built and virtual environments as well as the translation of spatial experiences and cultural knowledge into images, models, and living archives.
Saturday, November 28, 2026
On the second day, the focus shifts to physical perception, movement, and performative practices. The presentations examine how embodied knowledge becomes spatially effective in interaction with objects, images, sound, and digital technologies—and how movement design and spatial design influence one another in this process.

The Forum on Architectural Studies is an event organized by the Network for Architectural Studies e. V. (www.architekturwissenschaft.net). The forums regularly address relevant topics in architectural studies. The aim is to stimulate reflection on architecture across disciplinary boundaries and to bring together scholars from various disciplines.
The 12th Forum on Architectural Studies is organized in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture and Design and the XR+LAB at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences (HFT Stuttgart). The event is funded by the Sutor Foundation (Foundation for the Promotion of Architectural and Technical Science) and supported by the Rector’s Office of HFT Stuttgart as well as by HFT FRIENDS – Friends of the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences e.
