The "Hemp Acoustics" exhibition opened with a vernissage on 14 February 2024. Students from the International Master of Interior-Architectural Design (IMIAD) are presenting the results of the semester project of the same name until 15 April.

The third semester students spent a semester experimenting with hemp as a natural building material. The result is acoustic elements made from hemp shives, which are obtained from the wooden core of the plant stem. In combination with natural lime or geopolymer, the building material combines a variety of different properties. One of these is its excellent acoustic effectiveness.

As part of the project, the sound absorption of the individual elements was tested at the Center for Building Physics at the HFT Stuttgart site in Vaihingen. This gave the students an in-depth insight into acoustic measurement methods and working in the building physics laboratory.

The exhibition was sponsored by the association "Freunde der Hochschule für Technik Stuttgart e.V.".

We would like to thank Wöllner GmbH, Xatico, Felde Fibres GmbH, von Hanf GmbH and hemp engineer Henrik Pauly for their support of the project.
