Overview
In the previous projects SmartVillages and SmartVillages 2 (2024), a web-based platform was developed and evaluated that allows BIM models to be transferred to the state-wide Baden-Württemberg platform in 3D. SmartVillages 3 ‘3D Planning and Construction: Transfer of BIM Models – Extensions’ aims to investigate and integrate functionalities for simplified georeferencing and support for citizen participation, including predefined object libraries relevant to urban planning.
Research questions
The research project aims to investigate how the georeferencing of BIM models (in IFC format) can be intuitively implemented in a nationwide 3D building model for users. In particular, the various underlying reference systems (WGS 84 in the web-based viewer, UTM 32N in the geobasis data, a mostly local coordinate system in the IFC data) must be taken into account. Furthermore, a concrete case study will evaluate the use of the platform Baden-Württemberg in 3D in a participatory process in urban planning.
Scientific approach and methods
A concept for the georeferencing of IFC models for various cases will be developed and evaluated in 3D using a prototype implementation on the Baden-Württemberg platform. In a second step, based on the technical solution, the use of the platform in a participation process will be evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively in a case study together with Lebenswerke GmbH and the city of Kehl. For this purpose, an object library for vegetation objects and street furniture will also be created.
Targeted results
The aim of the project is to use the georeferencing concept in the Baden-Württemberg in 3D platform. The object library is also to be integrated into this platform. The results are to be made available as open source and as a basis for further scientific work. The findings from the evaluation of citizen participation are to be published and made transferable to other participation processes.
