The universities of applied sciences (HAW) were founded 50 years ago as universities of applied sciences. Together with Minister President Winfried Kretschmann and Science Minister Theresia Bauer, they will celebrate this round anniversary at a ceremony on 16 July 2021 at the university in Aalen. HFT Rector Prof. Dr. Katja Rade will also be present.
Around 40 percent of all students in Germany are enrolled at a HAW. In Baden-Württemberg alone, there are now around 128,000 students at all HAW and around 100,000 students at the 24 universities organised in HAW BW e.V.. More than 3,000 professors teach and conduct research at the 24 universities and around 15,000 employees are involved in the administration and research of the HAW. With their more than 600 attractive, future-oriented courses of study at Bachelor's and Master's level, the HAW provide the urgently needed skilled workers to cope with the major transformation processes in our society. HAW are innovative sources of impetus for the economy and society as well as important employers in the regions of the state. In addition, the universities are places of successful business start-ups, social commitment and cultural encounters. As research and development partners of small and medium-sized enterprises and the large companies of our successful industry as well as partners of public institutions, administrations, social institutions and NGOs, they are gaining more and more importance.
