Esri Anwendertreffen 2019

16. Esri User Meeting

For the 16th time, the HFT Stuttgart hosted the ESRI User Meeting Baden-Württemberg under the direction and moderation of Prof. Dr. Dietrich Schröder.

More than 90 participants from universities, public authorities and the private sector took the opportunity to inform themselves about innovations in the field of ESRI software as well as current research topics and applied GIS solutions.

Esri Anwendertreffen 2019

Dr. Schröder presented a series of studies that were carried out at the HFT Stuttgart using various ESRI products within the framework of master's theses, student projects and research projects. For example, in a final thesis in the master's course Photogrammetry and Geoinformatics, a tool was developed to assess the compliance with minimum standards for refugee camps. Many indicators have a spatial reference, such as tent area per refugee, fire safety, drainage, topography, which can be analysed using GIS. In a further thesis a heuristic approximation method for the optimization of the position of rain gauge stations was developed. Furthermore, Dr. Schröder reported about first experiences with the use of ArcGIS Pro in teaching. In the past winter semester, a number of student projects in the areas of data integration, geoprocessing, networks (Network Analyst), raster data/digital terrain models (Spatial Analyst), ModelBuilder and map layout were processed. Prof. Dr. Schröder showed both advantages and disadvantages of ArcGIS pro compared to ArcGIS Desktop.

Esri Anwendertreffen 2019

Florian Simetsreiter from ESRI Deutschland GmbH presented the innovations and future developments of ESRI products. An important point was the change in the licensing procedure and the introduction of so-called user types. He also emphasized that ESRI implements customer requests (Ideas) in ArcGIS Pro to a high degree.

Willi Wendt from the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO presented the Digitalakademie@bw, which, among other things, uses geoinformation systems to support municipalities, districts and regions in the state in their digital transformation and to act as an ambassador and accelerator for innovative developments in the state.

Furthermore, a project by Mario Storz from the University of Applied Sciences Karlsruhe for the visualization of Karlsruhe sewer cadastre data in a virtual reality and augmented reality app was shown.

Esri Anwendertreffen 2019

Günther Klehr from the city of Karlsruhe spoke about the current topic of Smart City.

The HFT employees Rushikesh Padsala and Patrick Würstle showed the results of their research work "Generation of 3D building models for energetic simulation - CityGML interoperability with the help of Esri CityEngine" before Gregor Radlmair from ESRI Deutschland GmbH presented the possibilities of displaying election results with the help of the Operations Dashboard.

As always, the event was rounded off with a company exhibition in which professional solutions in the ESRI environment were presented.
