Around 130 participants gathered on 14 November for the 15th "Vermessungsingenieurtag" in the auditorium of Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences. The focus was on engineering surveying, BIM and machine control. The event was organised by the Surveying Department and supported by the Friends Association. Prof. Dr. Alexander Beetz led the event.
"There is no knowledge problem," emphasised Prof. Dr Katja Rade, Rector of HFT Stuttgart, in her welcoming address with regard to challenges such as climate change, population growth and further urbanisation. "With your infrastructure planning, you are working on solving the problems that lie ahead, and our students will do the same in the future."
Dean Prof Dr Hardy Lehmkühler, HFT Stuttgart, reported on the changes and progress within the department. The professorships have been filled, the Bachelor's degree in Surveying and Geoinformatics has been newly accredited and from the summer semester, there will be two specialisations - surveying and geoinformatics - within the degree course. There will also be new modules: AI in Surveying and Geoinformatics, Digital Construction Site and BIM and Modelling. In future, modules from the Master's in Surveying can also be taken by several other degree programmes at HFT Stuttgart. The number of first-year students in the Bachelor's programme is stable.
Prof Dr Volker Coors, Vice-Rector for Research at HFT Stuttgart, presented current research projects in which third-party funding in the millions has been acquired, including iCity and Digitwins4PEDs. Thanks to the doctoral association, the number of people completing their PhD at HFT Stuttgart is constantly increasing.
Bernd Göhner from the Friends Association - now HFT Friends - called for people to join the association, which actively supports students at HFT Stuttgart in a variety of ways, as well as events such as this VIT. Anyone who is not yet a member is cordially invited to join: Membership application
Luisa Katzmaier and Johannes Jäger were honoured with the DVW Harbert Buch Prize. The prize was presented by Markus Muhler.
Johannes Jäger also received the BDB sponsorship award for the best thesis in the field of surveying and geoinformatics. The BDB sponsorship award was presented by Ulrich Völter.
The second session, moderated by Prof Dr Angela Blanco-Vogt, dealt with engineering surveying and machine control. Automatic positioning of tracks for high-speed lines was the topic of Ulrich Völter, Intermetric GmbH. Digital construction site control with Trimble Earthworks was presented by Jonathan Westa from SITECH Deutschland GmbH. The presentation by Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Gerhard Seifert (STRABAG GmbH) focussed on the use and control of controlled trenchers in the Südlink power line project (Lot 8). MTS Schrode AG is now "fully digital in civil engineering". Lukas Schrode reported.
After lunch together, the topic of BIM followed in Session 3, which was moderated by Prof Dr Sven Schneider.
Lukas Hanz presented his HFT Stuttgart master's thesis "Structure-from-Motion and BIM - From smartphone images to 3D models", which was developed in cooperation with the Zweckverband Landeswasserversorgung. In the lecture "BIM as a tool (instead of hype)" - our path at LEONHARD WEISS, Daniel Hildebrandt M.Eng. explained the comprehensive use and its advantages for the company. The article "Ready for BIM: New challenges in surveying and geodata management from the client's perspective" by Lisa Ertl M.Eng. (Flughafen Stuttgart GmbH) focussed on Stuttgart Airport.
We thank you for your visit and are already looking forward to the next VIT.
