»BRENNPUNKT ARCHITEKTUR«

Work lecture by Marie-José Van Hee on 6 July 2022 at 6:00 p.m.

THE LECTURE IS CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS

The Belgian architect Marie-José Van Hee is one of the significant contemporary architects. She has been working as a freelance architect in Ghent since 1975 and has mainly built smaller and larger residential buildings in Flanders over many years. Only in recent years have larger projects been added, such as the City Hall in Ghent together with Robbrecht & Daem or the Museum of Fashion MOMU in Antwerp.

Her buildings are precisely constructed - material and construction play an important role. The interiors are designed as highly subtle spatial sequences in which references to nature take on great importance. Marie-José Van Hee constantly reinterprets the themes of living beyond all fashions. She also mostly designs the interiors. Many of her residential projects are located in dense inner-city existing situations, into which she inserts her buildings in a highly subtle manner in terms of design and space. Particularly striking is the modest, timeless form of her powerful projects, which underlines the supra-temporal significance of her interior and exterior spaces.

In 2012, her work was shown at the 13th Architecture Biennale and in 2018 she has been invited to the 16th Architecture Biennale in Venice as the main exhibitor. In 2019, a monograph ('More Home, More Garden') on her work was published. And in 2021, the international Japanese architecture journal a+u dedicated a special issue to her (a+u 613). For about a decade, she has been regularly invited to give lectures and guest critiques at the major European architecture faculties in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden and the UK.

All interested parties are cordially invited to attend the lecture as part of the series "Brennpunkt Architektur"!
