Resource-Conscious and Climate-Responsive Housing in Otavi, Namibia

Master's Thesis | Diane von Ludwiger | 4th Semester | Summer Semester 2026

This master’s thesis develops a modular housing concept for Otavi, Namibia, that combines affordable housing with climate-responsive and resource-efficient construction methods. The expandable system combines prefabricated sanitary modules with locally constructed load-bearing structures and integrates passive climate strategies, rainwater harvesting, and communal open spaces.
The result is an adaptable housing model that utilizes local construction methods, fosters social interaction, and strengthens sustainable neighborhoods.
