Doctorate successfully completed
Michele Franco Adesso, former student of the Mathematics program and employee of the HFT Stuttgart, has successfully completed his doctorate at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz with the doctoral colloquium.
The title of his doctoral thesis is “Automated Validation of Collisions in the Digital Mock-Up Process of Complex Technical Products”.
The doctoral thesis was completed as part of the project GeoCADUp at the HFT. The scientific focus of the work is on methods of artificial intelligence for the digital position verification of components in vehicle construction. In the so-called digital mock-up, it must be ensured that the components of a vehicle to be installed are not in collision with their neighboring parts, i. e. do not occupy the same installation space. Collisions involving fastening elements such as screws, bolts or clips play a central role here. Mr. Adesso has researched a hierarchical pattern of neural networks in order to classify objects, e. g. different types of fasteners, efficiently and effectively. In a second step, he succeeded in realizing a neural network to check the installed position between two components. The neural network classifies for fastening elements, e. g. different versions of fir tree clips, whether they are positioned sufficiently centered in the hole of their counterpart and thus correctly installed.
We congratulate Dr. Adesso very warmly on his successful doctorate!
