In early July, the Faculty of Surveying, Computer Science and Mathematics at HFT Stuttgart welcomed a high-level delegation from Taiwan. The visit focused on current research activities in the fields of cybersecurity, industrial control system security, quantum computing and digital twins, as well as the initiation of potential collaborations between HFT Stuttgart and Taiwanese higher education and research institutions.
On the initiative of Prof. Dr Chia-Chen Lin from the National Chin-Yi University of Technology and the Taiwan Academic Cybersecurity Centre (TACC), the delegation visited HFT Stuttgart to learn about the university’s key research areas and innovation projects. The visit was prompted by a research initiative in the field of cybersecurity, funded by Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), focusing in particular on the security of industrial control systems (ICS).
Following a welcome and an introduction to the faculty and current research activities by Prof. Dr Gero Lückemeyer, Prof. Dr Matthias Hamann, Prof. Dr Annegret Weng, Prof. Dr Matthias Hamann, Prof. Dr-Ing Dieter Uckelmann, Prof. Dr Marcus Deininger and Chun-Yu Kang, the technical discussions covered, amongst other things, developments in the fields of IT security, quantum computing and digital twins. Together, they identified potential areas for future academic collaboration.
The Taiwanese delegation – comprising Prof. Dr Chia-Chen Lin, Prof. Dr Iuon-Chang Lin, Prof. Dr Jason Lin, Prof. Dr Chia-Chen Lin, Prof. Dr Shu-Min Li, Ms Yu-Ting Yang, Rick Lin and Hui-Rung Hsu – in smart cities and urban digital twins, iCity as a model or reference, and collaboration in the context of urban development, digital infrastructure and security issues. Discussions also centred on the extent to which the concepts presented could be adapted to the Taiwanese city of Taichung or applied there as well.
The visit provided a valuable platform for international academic exchange and laid the foundations for further discussions on joint research projects, academic activities and long-term partnerships between HFT Stuttgart and its Taiwanese partners.
