Students in the field of civil engineering have the opportunity to take certain additional courses during their studies. These courses are free of charge for students.

Theoretical E-Schein

For students of the Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Master of Structural Engineering with above-average interest in concrete technology, the HFT Stuttgart offers as a special feature an additional professional qualification which contributes to the increase of competitiveness of both the students in the supervised practical project and the graduates on the job market.

With appropriate participation and sufficient completion of the concrete technology module, the "Theoretical E-certificate" can be obtained, taking into account further work performed at the HFT during the course of the course of study. After 2 years of professional experience, this is recognised by the German Concrete and Construction Technology Association as a fully-fledged "Extended concrete technology training" - often referred to briefly as the "E-certificate".

This additional qualification, which is highly valued by the construction industry, is primarily aimed at engineers and technicians with professional experience and is a prerequisite for working in certain managerial positions (construction management/building material production/building material technology). The regular training for the "E-Schein" takes place outside of university studies within the framework of a four-week full-day course in recognised training centres. In the course of the fee-based course, those contents are taught which are not covered by the normal vocational training and regular studies. A prerequisite for participation is proof of practical experience in the production and processing of concrete.

As a result of the certification of the HFT Stuttgart as a recognised training centre for the E-Schein in 2009, 10 students per year can acquire the "Theoretical E-Schein" free of charge and parallel to their studies. This saves an enormous amount of time during the professional phase as well as considerable financial resources for the course and the associated examinations.

With regard to the acquisition of the "Theoretical E-Learning Certificate", Prof. Dr.-Ing. Silvia Weber advises the students individually in advance and ensures the necessary practical part by arranging suitable positions.

Students at the HFT Stuttgart also have the opportunity to take the first part of the additional qualification as welding engineer (SFI) as part of their studies. The training for this is carried out in cooperation with the Schweißtechnische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt (SLV) Fellbach and consists of a theoretical lecture part and a practical part in the welding laboratory. The theoretical part covers the topics material and welding processes. In the practical part the first independent welding exercises are carried out in the laboratory. The course is supervised by Prof. Dr. Hans-Peter Günter.

By attending the course and successfully passing the examination, there is the possibility of having part 1 of the training as an International Welding Engineer (IWE) recognised. In 2019, 28 students took advantage of this opportunity.
