The canteen was planned for an orphanage in Tanzania, realisation is estimated for 2020. The challenge of this project was mainly the subtropics’ extreme climatic conditions. A well-founded analysis of weather data and the corresponding reaction to it have resulted in an architecture appropriate to the climate. Natural materials such as wood, adobe and leaves resort to dwindling traditional construction methods, keep construction costs low and promote the indoor climate through their positive material properties. The modular structure of the architecture based on hyperbolic paraboloids and the simplicity in detail enable a simple construction with high architectural standards.
