Point 7 – Architecture lecture series

Lectures on 17/11. | 24/11. | 01/12/2022 at 7 pm

Once again this winter semester, the Faculty of Architecture and Design will be holding specialist lectures as part of the Point 7 series. Renowned designers from the fields of architecture, interior design and urban planning have been speaking in the series since 2004.

They talk about their personal approaches, strategies and experiences in project implementation. We also look at their individual attitudes to architectural and building-cultural issues. We gain insights into their respective work and the person behind it.

This year's lectures will focus on sustainability, resource conservation, reuse of building materials, building with natural materials and alternative construction methods.

We are looking forward to Barbara Buser (baubüro in situ, Basel), Markus Lager (LAGERSCHWERTFEGER, Berlin) and Prof. Tina Kammer (InteriorPark., Stuttgart).

Barbara Buser | baubüro in situ, Basel
»Ressourcen schonen durch Wiederverwendung« (»Conserving resources through reuse«) on 17 November 2022, 7:00 pm
After studying architecture at ETH Zurich, Barbara Buser built wells in South Sudan as a development aid worker from 1980 to 1984.
From 1986 to 1991, she renovated the buildings and infrastructure of the university campus in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on behalf of the SDC, where she also met her partner Max Honegger. Back in Basel, she began working - as the first woman - as a captain on the Münsterfahre.
She places particular emphasis on sustainable building, having founded the first building components exchange together with Klara Kläusler. Subsequently, she initiated and accompanied various conversion projects such as the Unternehmen Mitte, the Gundeldinger Feld and the Walzwerk, to name but a few. Several awards for ecological building and sustainability as well as the Grand Prix Meret Oppenheim crown this commitment.

Markus Lager | LAGERSCHWERTFEGER, Berlin
»Woher kommt die Form?« (»Where does form come from?«) on 24 November 2022, 7:00 pm
"If sustainability is the question, our answers are architectural form and responsible material choice. Experiment and process. Independence and social context," describes Markus Lager.
This is how Lagerschwertfeger work on complex tasks, approaching the ideal solution and finding the best results for clients, the environment and society. Many years of planning and implementing timber and timber hybrid buildings qualify the architectural office. Projects of different sizes and orientations have been discussed, planned, redesigned and built. They work, research and teach with experts in sustainable construction in interdisciplinary teams.

Prof. Tina Kammer | InteriorPark., Stuttgart
»Nutzen, was ist« (»Use what is«) on 01 December 2022, 7:00 pm

Tina Kammer has been following developments in the field of sustainability since the 1980s. After working as a cabinetmaker, architect in London and on international projects, she co-founded InteriorPark in 2010. Since 2022, she has been teaching sustainable building as a professor at the IU.
Due to their enormous consumption of resources and energy, architecture and design are considered the main starting points for sustainable developments. The transformation of the throwaway society to a circular economy generates added value for everyone and enables a sustainable and liveable built environment. From this inner conviction, she looks at things in depth: sensitises, links, networks and advises. Above all, however, she is committed to a new culture of thinking in architecture.
