The calculation of the transport climate balance leaves a lot of room for maneuver

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Payam Dehdari, our expert for sustainable logistics at HFT, with his colleagues Prof. Dr. Wlcek (Esslingen University of Applied Sciences) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Furmans (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) discussed whether it is better to order coffee beans from Hamburg or to buy them locally with regard to the transport climate balance.

This discussion resulted in the article "An updated literature review of CO2e calculation in road freight transportation".(https://doi.org/10.1016/j.multra.2022.100068) This shows how detailed the calculation of CO2e emissions in road freight transportation is. For this purpose, 53 scientific sources and 121 business reports were analyzed. Only 14 of the 53 scientific sources considered emissions the minimum requirements are in the current guidelines. Only 14 of the 121 companies published emissions from transport activities. Therefore, the study underlines the need for new and validated models to support decision-making processes aiming at a sustainable reduction of CO2e emissions.
