Both Prof. Dr. Lutz Gaspers, Vice Rector for Studies and Teaching, and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Huep, Vice Rector for Science and Research, were re-elected by the Senate for a further term of office.

Dr. Doreen Kirmse took up her office as Chancellor on 1 July, and on 1 September Prof. Dr. Katja Rade took over as new Rector of the University. Rector Prof. Rainer Franke will retire at the end of the summer semester. The offices of the Prorectors will remain constantly occupied.

Prorector for Studies and Teaching

As Vice Rector for Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dr. Lutz Gaspers has been a member of the university management since March 2018. He is the main contact person for the students in the Rectorate and thus responsible for the Student Department and the Didactics Centre.

Gaspers did his doctorate at the Institute of Regional and Development Planning at the University of Stuttgart and was appointed to the HFT Stuttgart for the winter semester 2010. He teaches in the fields of spatial and development planning, transport systems and development, and mobility concepts. As Professor of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Building Physics and Economics, he was significantly involved in the establishment and initiation of the Master's programme in Transport Infrastructure Management and has been the dean of studies since its introduction in 2014. In addition to his teaching activities, he is currently also involved in the research projects M4_LAB (HFT innovation laboratory for the Stuttgart metropolitan region), i_City (intelligent city) Smart2Charge and HFTmobil. Within the HFTmobil project, the first Mobility Day was held at our university in 2019. The mobility concept developed for the HFT was awarded a prize by the Ministry of Science and Art.

Vice Rector for Science and Research

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Huep has been in office as Prorector for Science and Research since the winter semester 2007/08. In the Rectorate, he is responsible for the Institute of Applied Research (IAF), quality assurance and continuing education as well as for all transfer issues within the framework of the Innovative University.

"The HFT Stuttgart is one of the universities in Baden-Württemberg with the highest third party funding. I am very pleased with the direction the university is taking to make a strong profile for itself in the field of research, to continue to steer and support it. Huep was appointed professor at the HFT Stuttgart in the summer semester of 1998. His areas of expertise in the Faculty of Surveying, Computer Science and Mathematics are Surveying, Geoinformatics and Electronic Data Processing. He studied geodesy at the Technical University of Braunschweig and at the University of Hanover. In 1985 he received his doctorate at the University of Hanover. Before being appointed to the HFT Stuttgart, he worked as a development engineer, product area manager and marketing manager at Leica, Heerbrugg Switzerland, and in the Geodetic Systems division of Carl Zeiss, Oberkochen and Jena.

The new term of office begins on 1 September 2020
