All tutors and mentors are essential for HFT Stuttgart and in great demand in various areas. They support and encourage students at eye level, offer assistance and advice in the learning process and help first-year students in particular to integrate into student life. And the best thing about it: The students are qualified in the Centre for Teaching and Learning, receive credit points and can apply for advertised jobs as student tutors or mentors at the HFT Stuttgart and earn extra money for their studies.

The tutor and mentor qualification takes place online in winter semester 2020/21.

Tutors

Tasks

  • Explain complex issues in an understandable way
  • Support students with exercises
  • Design tutorials in a way that promotes learning and motivates
  • Give critical feedback to students
  • Answer questions on all issues relating to studies

Process of qualification

All tutors take part in an entry, advanced and final module. At the same time, in an accompanying module, they are given the opportunity to deal with their individual practical experiences and receive advice.

Mentors

Tasks

  • Accompany the entire Orientation Week
  • Reveal to first-year students what is needed for successful studies
  • act as a learning consultant: support all concerns about learning and provide information about time management or learning motivation in personal conversations

Process of qualification

Ideally, the mentors study in the third or higher semester. During the qualification they are given basic knowledge about learning, learning strategies, communication and counselling as well as the opportunity to reflect on their own knowledge.

"The mentor qualification offered me the opportunity to improve my soft skills and to develop personally. These experiences help me to cope better with my everyday life at university and are certainly also useful with regard to my future professional life".
