Whether individual advice on general topics in teaching, e-learning, project- and problem-oriented learning, curriculum development or qualitative teaching evaluation: an experienced team of University Teaching Experts supports professors at the HFT Stuttgart in all matters concerning their teaching activities.

In addition, this team determines didactic topics for the university's own annual programme of events. In addition, events such as the Day of Teaching or the awarding of the university's own teaching prize regularly provide new impulses and give cause for further development and reflection.

As a valuable addition to the initially largely autodidactic practice of university teaching, the continuing education offers, references to support programmes and, in particular, the Centre for Teaching and Learning's personal assistance support me in questioning what I am accustomed to, in adopting new perspectives and thus improving my own teaching.

Annual Programme

HFT Stuttgart's Centre for Teaching and Learning offers around 60 free events for all professors and university employees every year. Each event is participant- and transfer-oriented as well as scientifically well-founded and practice-oriented. This allows knowledge to be kept up to date and creates space for exchange and inspiration. Renowned lecturers provide information especially for professors on the following didactic topics: teaching and learning, testing, counsellingand evaluation. The programme isoptimally complemented by interdisciplinary further education and language courses for all university employees.

Please keep up to date on our website and in the HFT-Intern about our further education offers.

Baden-Württemberg Certificate in University Teaching

Professors can find further university teaching workshops at the office of the Study Commission for University Teaching at Universities of Applied Sciences in Baden-Württemberg (GHD). Lecturers can obtain the Baden-Württemberg Certificate in University Teaching from the GHD. Workshops from the HFT Stuttgart's programme of events can also be credited for this, with some of the GHD events taking place on the premises of the HFT Stuttgart. To the Programme of the GHD >>

Neckar-Connection

Through the "Neckar-Connection", a cooperation of the HFT Stuttgart with the Esslingen University of Applied Sciences, the Stuttgart Media University, the Reutlingen University of Applied Sciences and the Nürtingen-Geislingen University of Applied Sciences, additional cross-university continuing education courses in the field of university didactics are available to you.

University Teaching Qualification

All newly appointed professors as well as interested lecturers at the HFT Stuttgart can take part in the university's own qualification programme. Since improving the quality of studies and teaching is one of the central concerns of the HFT Stuttgart, this so-called university teaching qualification for newly appointed professors in the form of 120 work units is a fixed component of the appointment agreement. In addition to the qualification, the participants maintain a teaching portfolio specially developed by the Service-Center for Learning and Teaching.

Individual advising and supporting offers

A team of experienced university teaching experts supports professors with a wide range of university didactic measures concerning new conception, further development and evaluation of their teaching concepts. With the following offers, lecturers at the HFT Stuttgart are optimally advised and supported:

Teaching Concept Consultation

Deskription

In teaching concept consultations, lecturers are supported in the conception, implementation and evaluation of their courses by experienced university teaching experts.

Advantages

Teachers are supported in meeting the qualitative requirements for good teaching in the best possible way, receive sound feedback on their teaching concept and (new) didactic impulses.

E-Learning

Description

Teachers are supported with regard to digital questions concerning their teaching activities with individual consultations and special workshops and can try out certain digital tools for their teaching and borrow them from the Centre for Teaching and Learning.

Advantages

Teachers receive new ideas for alternative (digital) design of their teaching and are supported and optimally accompanied in the implementation of concrete (further) developments.

Project and Problem-oriented Learning (POL)

Description

In order to successfully develop the next generation of academics, the HFT Stuttgart places particular emphasis on courses in POL format. For this reason, teachers are given special advice on the new concept and/or further development of courses in this format.

Advantages

Students work on (interdisciplinary) real-life tasks from professional practice and can further develop their interdisciplinary competences by, among other things, taking responsibility for their learning process.

TAP-Evaluation

Description

With the qualitative evaluation 'Teaching Analysis Poll' (TAP), teachers have the opportunity to obtain student feedback within the framework of a qualitative interim evaluation and, based on this, to further develop their teaching in cooperation with a university teaching expert.

Vorteile

Teachers receive important insights from students about their course and can use the results to further develop their teaching concept didactically, whereby possible changes can already be made in the current semester.

Teaching Hospitation

Description

Through the expert-supported teaching hospitation, professors can obtain feedback from experienced university teaching experts on their own course. Together, concrete questions as well as, for example, recurring difficulties can be specifically analysed and, if necessary, didactically developed further within the framework of the course.

Advantages

Teachers receive targeted feedback on selected aspects as well as new perspectives and individual suggestions for their own teaching activities. In this way, they can identify individual development needs and opportunities and, if necessary, derive appropriate measures.

Teaching Portfolio

Description

As an individual self-learning tool for teachers, the teaching portfolio is a collection of documents to record and reflect on personal experiences and attitudes in teaching.

Advantages

Teachers can make their (teaching) expertise visible with the teaching portfolio, document and reflect on their own teaching activities and observe their development process in the field of teaching. They can also identify and respond to needs for change and/or learning.

HFT Stuttgart's Teaching Award

Every two years, the HFT Stuttgart honours special commitment to teaching by awarding the university's own teaching prize. The aim is to award particularly motivated and committed teachers who inspire their students for the subject and who plan and carry out their courses didactically successfully. The jury will select a winner on the basis of the evaluation criteria derived from the HFT Stuttgart's teaching and learning mission statement. The jury consists of the Vice-Rector for Studies and Teaching, the Head of the Centre for Teaching and Learning, one member of the Dean's Office per faculty, one student per faculty and one student parliament member, an external commission member (e.g. a University Teaching Expert).
