"In 2022, it becomes apparent that the already conflicting goals of energy supply, i.e., security of supply, sustainability, and low prices (cannot) be achieved together and simultaneously. Moreover, with security of supply at risk, reduced sustainability, and skyrocketing prices, moral, ethical, and sociopolitical questions intrude. These range from the meaningfulness and consequences of energy self-sufficiency to the necessity or justification of subsidies and individual restrictions on energy consumption. Energy industry and energy policy are therefore more than ever forced to deal with ethical questions. But under what circumstances can this even succeed in practical implementation?"
