Excursion to Amsterdam and forbo flooring

In the winter semester 2022/23, the third IMIAD semester is working on a material-based furniture design project with focus on linoleum. The course takes place in cooperation with forbo flooring, a linoleum producer.

As semester kick-off we visited the production in Assendelft near Amsterdam: During a factory tour we got the opportunity to follow the manufacturing process from the natural raw materials to the final product. We were able to understand workflows, manufacturing processes and product lines, and visit the showroom. Afterwards, Marijke Griffioen, Senior Designer Linoleum, gave us inspiring insights into the world of furniture linoleum and previous university- and company collaborations. Many thanks for the hospitality and cooperation! A big thank you also to Jaqueline Böddeker (Marketing Team Germany) and Christel van de Geer (Manager Company Visits) for the organization.

During the excursion to Amsterdam, we also visited Stedelijk Museum and had the opportunity to see other exhibitions, such as  Rijksmuseum. The exhibition "Wat een gebouw" (What a building!) in the NEMO Science Museum took place at this time as well.

The excursion was supervised by Prof. Karsten Weigel, Dipl.-Des. Alexander Klein (LBA) and Dipl.-Des. Melissa Acker (AM) and, with the support of the interior design workshop team, served as the basis for the semester design project.
